mosahodenallo : ‘ഒരേ കടല്‍’-രാഗം

I have so far sung in all South Indian languages
except Kannada. I have been thinking about doing
a Kannada song and hence I have chosen a
Shubha-Panthuvarali krithi by Purandara Dasa.
I learned this by hearing Sudha Raghunathan's
rendition. Some minor mistakes have crept into
my version, for which I am the sole culprit!

Purandara Dasa(1484 – 1564) is considered as the
'Father of Carnatic music'. He has composed many
krithis in his native Kannada language. He was
also the one who setup and standardised a
systematic method for teaching classical music,
which is followed even today.

ശ്യാമപ്രസാദിന്റെ പുതിയ ചിത്രമായ ‘ഒരേ കടല്‍'-ലെ
എല്ലാ ഗാനങ്ങളും ശുഭപന്തുവരാളി രാഗത്തിലാണ്
ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. പ്രണയത്തിന്റെയും
വിരഹത്തിന്റെയും വിഷാദം ഗാനങ്ങളിലുള്‍ക്കൊള്ളിക്കാന്‍
ഈ രാഗത്തിന് ഒരു പ്രത്യേക കഴിവുണ്ട്. ഉദാഹരണത്തിന്
ജാനകിയുടെ ഒരു മാസ്റ്റര്‍പീസായി കണക്കാക്കാവുന്ന
തകരയിലെ ‘മൌനമേ നിറയും മൌനമേ...‘.

ശുഭപന്തുവരാളി എന്നതിനെക്കാളും ദുഖപന്തുവരാളി എന്ന
പേരാണ് ഈ രാഗത്തിന് ചേര്‍ച്ച. ഇതുപോലെ കേട്ടാല്‍
കരച്ചില്‍ മാത്രം വരുന്ന രാഗമായ പന്തുവരാളിക്ക് (ഈ വെറും
പന്തുവരാളി ശുഭപന്തുവരാളിയല്ല) ‘കാമവര്‍ദ്ധിനി’ എന്ന
ഒരു പര്യായം കൂടി നല്‍കിയത് ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യന്‍ സംഗീതത്തിലെ
മറ്റൊരു വൈരുധ്യം!
